Here is a place that you can communicate with me more directly. I look forward to your comments and opinions. Thanks for visiting.

This is a band that I have really grown to like over the past two years and I recently got to see them in Tulsa. Let me know what you think!

Auditotree Live is a great youtube channel to watch acoustic songs from a lot of different artists. They always seem to have someone on there I didn't think they would.

  1. Hey Steve! I think that the Legends from the Pacific Northwest sounds like a great topic to be doing your Storybook on. I have never been to the Pacific Northwest, but have heard it is absolutely beautiful from many people! It is definitely on my list of places to visit.
I liked your explanation for why you chose this topic and that you are so interested in Native American culture. In Oklahoma, we learned a lot about the Native American cultures at school. I can understand why it might be a bit different in Michigan though!
One thing to change/add might be to try and find a way to place a link for your blog to your Storybook. I had to dig around for your blogsite through Laura’s other links, which may make it difficult for future people to connect!
Good luck with your semester, and I can’t wait to check back in when there is more to read!

  2. Hi Steve!
I hope you have had a great semester thus far!!!
I also agree that Legends from the Pacific Northwest will be a great topic for the Storybook project. I do not know a lot about that area but from everything you described about it, it truly sounds breathtaking. I hope your stories will continue that theme of explaining the surroundings and giving more information about nature.
I completely agree with you that our country's past is consumed with the stories of Native Americans. They made our country. I can't wait to see what stories you come up with next.
There are so many tribes to choose from. Each of them is unique and has a special something about them. I can't wait to look for similarities as well as the differences between them all. I really look forward to reading all of them. Good luck with the rest of your project!

  3. Hey Steve,

I’m glad that you’re enjoying the Native American culture here! I thought it was funny that you said we don’t learn about it much in school when we’re younger, because I grew up in Oklahoma, and I feel like that’s all I heard about! Maybe I’m exaggerating it in my mind, but I knew any museum we went to for field trips or with my family that was anywhere close to home was always filled with Native American history. I wish I had a greater appreciation for it, but I think I took it for granted so much that I prefer learning about any part of history other than the Native Americans in Oklahoma! (Not that this reflects how I feel about your project; plus, yours is about the Northwest! :) )

I loved what you said about it being an “authentic wilderness,” unable to be influenced by human hands. It paints a captivating picture of a world ready to be explored, and makes me excited to read more!

I had no idea about the flattening of the heads! That’s… kind of gross, but it makes me wonder what else I could learn about them!

I was just about to ask what point of view you were going to tell the stories from when I read the line about the trees! Yay! I love trees, and I think that sounds like a really cool vantage point. (Have you read The Two Towers?)

Oooh, and the boy traveling in time! I’m excited about that one! Great ideas, and I liked that you included some historical background information.

(Sorry about all the exclamation points; I had too much coffee today.)

  4. Steve, what a great introduction! The thought of being the first person to ever see a country got me super stoked. I myself am Native American, therefore, your introduction really stood out to me. It is exciting to see people interested in this topic! I am glad that I didn’t live during this period because I definitely have a rounder head. The very last paragraph in your introduction captivated me and made me want to read more. What if you added some quotations from past Native Americans here to really draw the readers in? What if you showed an example of their artwork in your introduction? These are some random ideas that could add some extra detail into your story! I am very excited to see what a Native American thinks about the future (I feel like that story could be really funny!) The last sentence is genius! I am ready to open my imagination and experience the beauty of the Pacific Northwest (especially since I am dying to go there!)

  5. Steve, I really like the background you chose for your blog! It reminds me of vacation :) I also really like how you have white text boxes and black font. It looks very organized and easy to read! Good choice sir!

  6. Hi Steve!

I love the subject matter you chose for your storybook. You seem really passionate about the pacific northwest so it sounds like a perfect thing for you to write about! I like that your introduction is straight forward and lays out exactly what the reader can expect. All of the other storybooks I have read had frametales which are really fun but I found your straight forward style to be very refreshing.
As for your first story, I love the idea of it being from the perspective of a tree. I also appreciate that you really made the original story your own but kept the significance of why the salmon come when they do. I will mention that you may want to review your story for spelling and grammatical errors as there were a fair number, but I was still able to read and enjoy your story. Overall, you made me really want to read more about the area and I really look forward to reading your next story!

  7. I really liked the video that you chose for the Comment Wall. The attention the video pays towards the instrumentalists is great. I love acoustic music because it feels more real. The lead singer's voice is so soothing and relaxing. Then you throw in great harmony and I have a new group to listen to. Thank you so much for sharing this group with us!

  8. I think it interesting and adds a nice twist to the story telling it from the tree's viewpoint. It is very unique and original. I enjoy reading stories like this. It's always interesting to see the story told form a different viewpoint.
I think it was cool that the tree found out what the fuss was for the natives. It was neat that the tree is the one who asked his friends to tell the salon to swim down stream. I have read a lot about native people and their connection to earth and nature. Many of their myths tell how they have a close relationship and how they help one another. Just like the story you told. Some myths even tell how animals were once able to talk to the natives.
Just like how you described reading the story and it being weird talking about poop. I though the same thing when I first started reading your story. I like how you kept the key factors from the original story. You also did a good job of adding your own unique features to your story. The kids talking in the tree was my favorite part.

  9. I really liked the music video you chose for your Comment Wall. It is awesome that pays homage and gives attention to the instrumentalists, which is great because sometimes they do not get the most light shined in their direction. I love acoustic music, so it was great to hear new music from new artist. Great choice for your Comment Wall!

  10. OHHHHH great song choice Steve! I love the Oh Hellos. I also saw them recently in Tulsa. I wonder if we were at the same concert? If so, I thought it was so cool when they came into the audience and started playing! They are such a great band with high energy. You seem like you have great choice in music…. we would get along well!

  11. I think your choice of music is great. I think it totally suits with your theme of your blog. I have never heard of this song or watched video, but this song reminds me of color blue for some reason. Since your blog has the theme of sky, airplane and blue, i think your choice of music was great. Good job!

  12. Hi Steve! You seem so passionate about your Storybook topic--I think it's great that you get to write about a part of the country that you're so amazed by! Your introduction had some awesome imagery, but I found myself wondering even more about the tribes that your stories are coming from--maybe you would consider putting some more information in there about the tribes? Or even just some links to more information? And I really liked your first story, View From Above--it was clever of you to write it from the tree's point of view! And the fact that you wrote the tree's voice in a much more modern style (with diary entries and everything--although I found myself wondering about tree diaries and how the trees would feel about paper--maybe you could put some more details in about how exactly the tree is writing in a diary? It could be as original as you'd want to make it, which would be cool, I think...) was also pretty interesting, because it really made the tree a distinctive narrator with a distinctive voice. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your Storybook, and I wish you luck going forward!

  13. Hey Steve! I have never heard of Audiotree Live before until seeing it on your comment wall! I love every type of music, especially soft acoustic. I guess I will have to go check it out! Also, that is awesome that you got to see them in Tulsa! I think acoustic music sounds incredible live because it is so smooth and natural.

  14. Your introduction was very informative. I did not know anything about the Pacific Northwest tribes before I read this. I think it is cool for you to share these stories, because it will help me and other people learn more about the people native to these lands. I like the scenery that you described in your first diary post. It sounds like a beautiful region.
I wonder what this story would be like if you had some of the natives become characters in your story. You mentioned that you heard a boy and girl talking, but I would like to learn about the other characters a little more. I think this would give a better glimpse into their life. Even with the narrator as an observer, I think it would be cool to include the dialogue between the boy and the girl.
Interesting story, I am curious to see what the rest of your stories will be about.

  15. Hi Steve, I really like your Storybook! I thought it was really interesting that you decided to do your Storybook over the Pacific Northwest! I have actually been to Seattle before and it is beautiful up there! Your blog layout looks great and I think that your background complements the body text nicely. There are only a couple things I would recommend changing--in your introduction you mention a couple of numbers and instead of leaving them in numeral form I would change them to words. I think that will make that paragraph flow a little better. The only other thing I would recommend changing is that you could put some kind of dates on the diary entries. Even though trees don't use a calendar like we do, they can sense the seasons changing--for example for one of your entries say "beginning of summer" or for another one say "mid-fall?" Other than that your Storybook looks great! Nice job!

  16. Hi Steve! Your explanation to your reasons for choosing this topic for your storybook is quite interesting. I have never been to the Pacific Northwest before, but would absolutely love to go there some day, especially Washington. I thought it was very creative for you to have nature itself be writing this diary, having entries from trees is quite interesting to read. I thought you did a good job of describing what it would be like if a tree could write down what goes on in their day and their thoughts about humans. It was a bit sad thinking about how the tree described its branches being broken of by the storm as painful. I am now reflecting on what all the trees must feel like in windy Oklahoma. Good job!

  17. Hi, Steve! I think your choice of the storybook is great. The title you pick tells me a lot about what you are going to write about. I am wondering why did you pick Pacific northwest? I am interested in what kind of stories you have talked about and what kind of technique you have used so far. The front page of the storybook website is just wonderful. I think that is the great picture you have picked and made me excited about reading your stories. I like how you used 'dear diary' technique to tell your story to us. I used to write a diary so I could related myself to your storybook and was able to focus on your story. It was a great story, and I think the title you chose for your story was just wonderful. I think it was a great storybook! Great job! Keep up the good work!

  18. I really enjoyed your story, I Now Pronounce You Man and Wife! I would totally be the one to fall flat on my face when meeting someone! I guess it was a pretty great ice breaker though! I'm sure that this kind of situation happened a few times and I hope that they all ended up being happy in the end just like for these two! You write really well and I enjoyed reading the author's note so I knew exactly what you were thinking! Great job!

  19. Hi Steve! I Just finished reading “ I Now Pronounce You Man and Wife.” I was very excited to look at your storybook because I am in Native American Music right now. I wanted to see if there was any cross over of what I had already learned of the tribes in North America and the stories that you explored and made your won. I really liked this adaptation of what would happen in an irregular marriage. I think it was really cool that you showed that this man didn’t really fit in, and just wanted to find someone who understood him, since his family and tribe couldn’t seem to. I enjoyed the happy ending as well because it conveyed your message that even though the odds were against them their love would get them through it. They found a way to overcome their parents, and show everyone that they belonged together. Great Story!

  20. Hey Steve! I also really like that Youtube Channel, I love acoustic versions of songs that I have already heard. I think it is such a neat way to listen to music that you obviously already enjoy, but in a different way. So, I really enjoyed the song that you chose, thanks for sharing! I hope you've had a great semester!
